A fine 19th century Morris & Co Sussex chair, c.1870. Designed by Ford William Maddox for William Morris.
Charming areas of wear to the arm rest from years of use. There is evidence of repair and restoration in areas. The rush seat is later and in excellent order. There have been historic repairs to the supporting seat pegs, and a few stretchers ends are ever so slightly out of their hole (please see photographs). There is a slight movement in the joints but the chair overall is in a good strong usable condition.
