A superb Grand Tour bronze of Venus of Capua, circa. late 19th century.
The Venus of Capua is a Roman marble sculpture (2nd century AD), preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, depicting Venus with her left foot on Mars' helmet and arms raised. The original sculpture likely had a shield, used by the goddess to mirror herself.
This 19th century bronze of the original is crisply cast and of excellent proportions. Mounted upon a Sienna marble base.
