A 19th century oil on board depicting a willow cutter with a basket of sticks upon his back, leaning against a pollarded willow in a wintery marsh setting beneath an ominous sky. Unsigned.
The colour palette and verve of the sky make an atmospheric work. There is one small historic woodworm hole to the very bottom left corner (please see photographs), otherwise the work remains in a good condition overall.
The board is housed in a giltwood frame which has signs of wear commensurate with age in areas but displays well. Stencilled reference number present to the back of the board.
