A Winsor & Newton 'Illuminating Colours & Materials' artists' paint box. Circa. 1890.
The paintbox is in a wholly original condition, exactly as its last painter left it. The box retains every original paint pot with legible names and ceramic palettes. There are two additional paint powders in the box, one 'Chinese White', the other unmarked. All the named ceramic paint pots save 'Vermillion' have lids very firmly on the paints; these have not been forced open so the contents remain uninspected. Note the Vermillion paint which does open with ease has only been lightly used and remains full.
