A very fine brass book rest / lectern, circa. late 19th Century.
The rest is substantial in weight but of superbly useable proportions and folds flat, making it perfect for use as a cookbook stand or desk rest that will store in a drawer when not in use.
The finely cast grill boasts tiny flowers, each crisply depicted. The original lead weights hand on two pieces of string. Fully adjustable from near 90 degree angle to flat.
Historic repair to the strut at the back which is holding strong. The ends of the rest have been turned up; they are uniformly turned up in the same manner and angle indicating a previous owner has done this deliberately, possibly to keep pages in place.
Original red label to the underside which reads, 'This article is enamel coated and does not require polishing. Can be cleaned with a duster.'
